Cam Ward, a Heisman Trophy finalist, has boosted his chances of becoming the top overall pick in next month’s NFL draft. At Miami’s pro day, he showcased his skills in front of over 90 NFL team staffers, including the Tennessee Titans’ contingent, who hold the No. 1 pick.
Ward completed a pass and was seen speaking with Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker after the play, saying “I’m solidifying it today.” The message conveyed his confidence in his abilities, which were on full display during his workout.
The Miami quarterback broke multiple school records in his lone season, including single-season records for passing yards, completions, and completion percentage. He also became the combined leader in passing touchdowns with 158 in his final collegiate game.
Ward’s journey to the NFL has been marked by transfers from Incarnate Word and Washington State before landing at Miami. Despite being a zero-star recruit initially, he proved himself through his performances, ultimately becoming considered for the top pick.
The Titans drafted quarterback Will Levis in the second round last year but struggled with inconsistency. Ward acknowledged that playing in a Power 5 level was essential to being considered as a top overall pick and expressed excitement about potentially working with coach Brian Callahan, who previously worked with Joe Burrow at the Cincinnati Bengals.
The 2025 NFL draft is set to take place on April 24-26 in Green Bay.
