Netflix Supports Samsung TVs with HDR10 Plus Format

Netflix has added support for HDR10 Plus, a format that allows Samsung TV owners to stream in higher quality with better clarity and color. The Premium plan now offers HDR10 Plus content, accounting for around 50% of eligible viewing hours.

Samsung TVs can’t use Dolby Vision due to licensing issues, but HDR10 Plus is an alternative. This format adjusts tone and brightness levels on a scene-by-scene basis, unlike HDR10 which uses static metadata. As the world’s largest TV brand, Samsung’s market share is significant.

Without HDR10 Plus, Samsung TV owners had to watch content with lower quality HDR10. Netflix has now supported this format through its AV1 video codec, requiring a compatible TV. The company plans to expand its library of HDR10 Plus content by 2025, offering improved viewing experiences for subscribers.
