Measles Cases Confirmed in Oklahoma, Last Seen in Owasso Market

The Oklahoma Department of Health has confirmed seven cases of measles in the state. The last reported location where individuals with measles were seen is the Owasso Market.

Emma Pugh, an Owasso resident who works at a local cleaner, believes that the OSDH’s increased transparency about the cases could be beneficial, but also potentially lead to over-cautiousness.

Kendra Dougherty, Director of Infectious Disease Prevention and Response, stated that her department aims to gather as much information as possible to keep Oklahomans informed. The Measles Situation update will be posted on the OSDH’s website every Tuesday and Friday at noon, unless there are reported exposure sites.

Dougherty emphasized that protecting the public and being transparent in the process are the main goals of this initiative. She noted that the chances of people catching measles due to these cases are low, as individuals who tested positive for the disease reported it soon after symptom onset.
