Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a temporary truce in maritime and energy areas, according to US officials. However, Washington is seeking some easing of sanctions imposed on Russia.
The agreement comes as the conflict between the two countries continues. Kremlin spokespersons are demanding that the US order Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to comply with the deal. Zelenskiy’s office has disputed this claim, stating there is no requirement for him to lift certain sanctions.
US President Donald Trump described the progress as “tremendous,” despite describing the relationship between the two countries as marked by strong animosity.
The truce primarily involves a pause in attacks on energy facilities. This development suggests broader truce prospects, and officials are now exploring ways to expand the agreement to cover other areas of conflict.
