A strain of bird flu has been confirmed in a dairy herd in Stearns County, Minnesota. The virus was detected in a sample collected as part of the state’s milk surveillance plan. Despite initial concerns, officials say there is no risk to consumers due to pasteurization.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture conducts monthly tests on raw cow milk from 1,600 farms. In response to the discovery, Representative Rick Hansen called for increased safeguards to address H5N1 avian flu. He emphasized the need for further testing and monitoring to protect the public and workers in the poultry and dairy industries.
