Character.AI has added a new feature called “Parental Insights” that allows parents to track their teen’s chatbot usage. The report provides information on daily time spent, most frequently interacted characters, and conversation time with each character. However, the contents of chats will not be shared.
This feature is part of Character.AI’s efforts to address concerns about minors spending too much time with chatbots and encountering inappropriate content during chats. The platform has been introducing new features for underage users since last year, following legal complaints and warnings from Apple and Google.
Character.AI’s system has been redesigned to avoid “sensitive” output, and under-18 users are now on a model trained to provide safe interactions. This feature is optional and can be set up by minor users in Character.AI’s settings.
The move comes as enthusiasm for AI regulation and child safety laws grows.
