Game Informer, a prominent video game news source, has made a surprise comeback after being closed for nearly three years. The Minneapolis-based magazine’s 13 employees were laid off in August as its parent company, GameStop, abruptly shut down the business.
However, in a stunning move, Game Informer editor Matt Miller and other publication leaders announced that the media company would be revived with all its staff members intact. The rebooted website is already live, featuring fresh video game reviews, including “Assassins Creed Shadows,” “Silent Hill 2,” and “Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.”
The revival comes after Gunzilla Games, a Frankfurt-based developer and publisher, acquired the rights to Game Informer. Despite the change in ownership, the publication will retain full editorial independence, according to Miller’s letter posted on its website.
Gunzilla Games CEO Vlad Korlov described the state of video game journalism as “tumultuous,” stating that his company is joining the fight to preserve the heart of video game journalism. Korlov praised Game Informer’s legacy, noting that it maintains a dedicated readership and holds a special place in the hearts of many players across multiple generations.
Miller expressed enthusiasm for continuing Game Informer’s mission to celebrate games and the people who make and play them. With its revival, Game Informer looks set to reestablish itself as a prominent voice in the video game media landscape.
