Prince Harry Quits Charity Over Governance Row

Prince Harry has stepped down from a charity he co-founded in his mother’s honour, citing a breakdown in relationship with the chairwoman who took legal action against the trustees. Sentebale, which aims to help people living with HIV and Aids in southern Africa, had previously reported concerns about governance and power abuse. The Charity Commission is now investigating these claims. In a joint statement, Prince Harry and his co-founder Prince Seeiso said they were resigning from their roles “with heavy hearts” but in solidarity with the board of trustees. Dr Sophie Chandauka, who was asked to step down, took legal action and had reported the trustees to the Charity Commission. She described her work as guided by fairness and equitable treatment for all, while Prince Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso expressed their concerns about the broken relationship. The charity itself confirmed a restructuring of its board, aiming to bring in experts with the capabilities to accelerate transformation agenda.
