Character AI Introduces New Safety Measures for Underage Users

Character AI, the Google-backed startup, has released new parental supervision tools to address concerns over child safety. The company’s decision comes after multiple lawsuits accused it of failing to protect underage users from harm.

The new features include a weekly email summary sent to parents and guardians about their child’s activities on the platform. This will provide them with information on the time spent on Character AI, including average time, top AI-generated characters, and duration of conversations.

These measures are part of a broader effort by Character AI to enhance user safety, following a series of teen safety features introduced in December last year. The company has also implemented a separate model for under-18 users, new classifiers to block sensitive content, more visible disclaimers, and additional parental controls.
