King Charles III has made his first statement since being hospitalized due to side effects from cancer treatment. The British monarch expressed sympathy for the people of Myanmar, who were affected by a devastating earthquake that resulted in 1,600 deaths.
The king’s Instagram post stated he and Queen Camilla were “shocked and saddened” by the disaster and offered condolences to those who lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. He praised the resilience of the people of Myanmar and expressed his sympathy during this difficult time.
This comes after a year of increased attention surrounding King Charles’ health due to his cancer diagnosis in February last year. The palace announced he had returned home to Clarence House and rescheduled his engagements for Friday.
