Telemundo Honors Queen of Tejano Music with 30-Year Tribute

Thirty years after her death, Telemundo is honoring the legacy of Selena, known as the Queen of Tejano music, with a two-part special called “Siempre Selena: 30 años de su Muerte.” The tribute will celebrate her life, music, and enduring impact on fans. The special will also revisit the events surrounding her tragic death at age 23 in 1995.

Selena was a charismatic star who had already achieved success with Spanish-language hits before her death. Her album “Dreaming of You” was released posthumously and featured an English-language hit, “I Could Fall in Love.” The person responsible for her murder, Yolanda Saldívar, is currently serving time in prison.

The tribute program will be hosted by Jessica Carrillo and Lourdes Stephen and feature interviews with stars such as Jennifer López, who portrayed Selena in a 1997 biopic. Selena’s brother, AB Quintanilla, will also appear to reflect on his sister’s musical career and unveil a new performance dedicated to her memory.

Selena has been honored with numerous tributes since her death, including a U.S. postage stamp, a Google Doodle, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A family-approved biopic was also released on Netflix in 2020.

The tribute doesn’t end there. Telemundo’s daytime programs will feature special coverage dedicated to Selena’s life and music throughout the week, culminating in a broadcast of the iconic film “Selena” starring Jennifer López on April 5.
