A California Lottery player has won a record-breaking $526.5 million Powerball jackpot, matching all six numbers drawn on Saturday night. The winner’s ticket was purchased for $2 and will receive either an annuity of $243.8 million or a lump sum payment of $526.5 million before taxes.
This is the second Powerball jackpot won in 2024, with the previous winner taking home $328.5 million in January. A total of over 928,000 tickets won cash prizes nationwide, including five that matched all white balls to win $1 million each.
The next Powerball drawing will take place on Monday night, resetting the jackpot to $20 million with a cash value of $9.3 million. To play, tickets cost $2 each and are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands, with more than half of proceeds remaining in the jurisdiction where purchased.
Since its inception in 1992, Powerball has generated over $32 billion for good causes supported by US lotteries. Drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, and also streamed on Powerball.com. The overall odds of winning a prize remain 1 in 24.9, while the jackpot odds are 1 in 292.2 million.
