Meta Invests $10 Billion in Louisiana AI Data Center

Gov. Jeff Landry and Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois have officially announced that Meta, Facebook’s parent company, plans to build a massive AI data center in Richland Parish. The project is valued at $10 billion, making it the largest private capital investment in state history.

The 4 million square foot facility will be built on agricultural land and become one of Meta’s 20 data centers worldwide. Once operational, it will create around 500 direct new jobs and support 5,000 construction jobs during peak construction.

Meta chose Richland Parish for its site due to its access to infrastructure, reliable grid, business-friendly climate, and community partners. The company plans to source labor and materials locally and invest over $200 million in local infrastructure improvements.

The project is expected to take advantage of a new state incentive program, which offers rebates on data center equipment purchases. Meta will also participate in the Quality Jobs program. The facility’s power needs will be met by Entergy adding clean, efficient power plants to its system.

State officials believe the project will have a significant impact on Louisiana, particularly for Richland Parish residents who live below the poverty line. Landry described it as a “game-changer” for the state and local community.
