NASA has removed two graphic novels featuring a fictional female astronaut from its website, sparking concerns over its stance on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. The move comes amid reported criticism from the Trump administration towards DEI programs, which promote fair treatment of people across all backgrounds.
The graphic novels, titled “First Woman: NASA’s Promise for Humanity” and “First Woman: Expanding Our Universe,” were online for years before being removed. A 404 error now appears on the main landing page dedicated to the story of fictional astronaut Callie Rodriguez, who was the first woman to walk on the Moon.
The agency had announced releases and updates to the series but failed to leave the main page intact. NASA’s Press Secretary did not respond to a request for comment. The move follows recent actions by the agency, including terminating diversity programs in January and restricting employee pronouns online.
These developments come as part of a turbulent week for NASA under the Trump administration, which has also seen significant contract terminations and staff reductions.
