UK Bans Daytime TV Ads For Sugary Foods To Combat Child Obesity

The UK government has announced plans to ban daytime TV adverts for sugary foods such as cereals, muffins, and burgers in an effort to combat rising child obesity rates. From October next year, ads showing “less healthy” food will only be allowed to air after the 9pm watershed. The National Health Service reports that one in five five-year-olds suffer from tooth decay due to excessive sugar consumption. The government aims to prevent around 20,000 cases of childhood obesity annually with these new measures.
