Crypto billionaire Chun Wang is set to launch aboard a SpaceX rocket on Monday night, carrying the Dragon capsule selected for the Fram2 mission. The crew of four international astronauts will become the first humans to travel over Earth’s poles, marking a historic milestone in private spaceflight.
The mission aims to explore Earth from a polar orbit and fly over the polar regions for the first time. The crew will conduct 22 experiments related to human health and physiology while in orbit, including capturing the first human X-ray images in space and growing mushrooms in microgravity.
Wang, who built his fortune by co-founding Bitcoin mining pools, is financing and commanding the mission. He’s joined by three other spacefarers: Jannicke Mikkelsen from Svalbard, Rabea Rogge from Berlin, Germany, and Eric Philips from Australia.
The Fram2 mission seeks to “unlock new possibilities for human spaceflight” and provide insights into Earth’s polar regions. The crew will spend up to five days in orbit before landing off the coast of California.
SpaceX will host a livestream of the launch on its website and social media platforms, starting an hour before liftoff. The webcast is available on SpaceX’s new X TV app.
