Oregon players Terrance Ferguson, Jeffrey Bassa, and Dillon Gabriel expressed confidence in their team’s ability to succeed after being moved from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten Conference. The Ducks finished the regular season undefeated at 12-0 and will face Penn State on Saturday night for the Big Ten title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
The trio of seniors had expected to return to action, having left media days in July with high hopes for the upcoming season. Ferguson, Bassa, and Gabriel attributed their success to “confidence, from your own preparation.” The team’s experience last year’s Pac-12 championship game loss still lingers, with Ferguson stating that it “stays with you 365 days.”
The Ducks will compete against other conference champions, including Texas, SMU, and Arizona State, who also reached the championship game in their first season. Bassa emphasized that the team is focused on winning the Big Ten title rather than securing a bye into the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
With the opportunity to be part of the Big Ten championship, Oregon’s seniors are putting everything they’ve got into this week, driven by their experience from last year and the confidence in their preparation.
