The Los Angeles Lakers are reeling after a dismal four-game stretch, and coach JJ Redick is taking ownership of the team’s struggles. In a post-game press conference following their 134-93 loss to Miami, Redick acknowledged that his team has lost its way, citing “base-level game-plan stuff” as the culprit.
The Lakers were once considered a top contender, but have now dropped six games in eight, losing by an average of 21.8 points. Despite LeBron James’ impressive 29-point outing, including his first three-pointer in 20 straight attempts, Redick placed blame squarely on himself and the team’s ownership structure.
“I’m embarrassed,” Redick said. “We’re all embarrassed.” He emphasized that he takes full responsibility for the team’s lack of professionalism and organization. Anthony Davis also volunteered to take some blame, citing his own struggles on offense as a contributing factor to the team’s woes.
Guard Gabe Vincent described the team’s mood as “upset,” while James urged his teammates to stay “even-keeled” despite their current slump. The Lakers will look to bounce back when they conclude their four-game trip against the Atlanta Hawks, riding a five-game winning streak.
