IDF Kills Hamas Commander in Lebanon Strike

The Israeli military announced on Friday that it had killed Hamas commander Hassan Farhat during a strike in Sidon, Lebanon. Farhat was the commander of Hamas’ western sector in Lebanon and was responsible for numerous terrorist plots, including launching rockets into Safed.

He was also involved in the rocket fire that killed Staff-Sergeant Omer Sarah Benjo in February and wounded several others. Two more people were killed during the strike. The IDF had previously withdrawn from southern Lebanon but re-established five new outposts in Lebanese territory to counter Hezbollah’s influence.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said it could take three to five years for villages in southern Lebanon to be rebuilt, which may delay any potential threat from Hezbollah using displaced civilians as noncombatants.
