Windows 11’s market share is poised to surpass its predecessor, Windows 10, by summer. Despite this, Windows 10 still accounts for over half of the market, with 54.2% compared to Windows 11’s 42.69%. The cause of the shift is likely due to enterprises upgrading to avoid extended support for Windows 10, which ends on October 14, 2025.
Windows 11 was initially limited by hardware compatibility issues, but these have largely been resolved at an enterprise level. As a result, more devices are becoming compatible with Windows 11. The looming end of Windows 10’s support is driving the adoption of Windows 11, as users face the cost of maintaining Windows 10.
However, some argue that there isn’t a compelling reason to upgrade from Windows 10, especially without a killer application or significant feature enhancements. Microsoft’s focus on promoting its AI-powered features, such as Copilot, may not be enough to drive widespread adoption.
Despite this, the market share growth of Windows 11 is accelerating, and it appears that the operating system will eventually surpass Windows 10. With only months left until Windows 10’s support ends, users are likely to upgrade to take advantage of the new features and avoid potential cost increases.
