British actor Hugh Grant has spoken out against an “insulting” and “creepy” encounter he had with immigration officers at Heathrow Airport, where his three children were questioned about their parents. The 57-year-old, who recently received a Bafta nomination for his role in the horror film Heretic, was traveling through the airport on Friday with his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein and their six children.
Grant claimed that an immigration officer asked his children, aged 12 to 7, if they were his mother and father, which he described as “intrusive” and “creepy.” He expressed frustration over the interaction, stating it was unnecessary and invasive.
The incident occurred when Grant and his family passed through immigration, with Grant’s last name appearing on all three of their passports. According to official government guidance, immigration officers may ask travelers a few questions if they have different family names or are not the child’s parent. However, Grant believes the interaction went beyond what was necessary and left him feeling upset.
Grant rarely discusses his children publicly, but he recently revealed that his youngest daughter’s middle name is a humorous reference to Austin Powers. The British film star has five children with two women, Anna Elisabet Eberstein and ex-partner Tinglan Hong.
