Saturday Night Live (SNL) poked fun at country singer Morgan Wallen twice during its April 5 episode, just one week after he abruptly left the show as the musical guest. The jokes targeted Wallen’s “God’s country” social media post and his sudden exit.
During the Cold Open, James Austin Johnson played President Donald Trump, referencing Wallen’s comment made on Instagram. The sketch included a tongue-in-cheek reference to Heard and McDonald Island, with Trump joking about visiting God’s country for Big Macs and hula skirts.
Later, Colin Jost made light of Wallen during Weekend Update, comparing his rapid departure from the show to an investor losing money fast – “Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights.”
The jokes were part of a larger episode that saw Mikey Madison as host and featured performances by Wallen, who was later seen sharing a photo of himself on a private jet with the phrase “Get me to God’s country” written in white text.
Wallen had initially stated he enjoyed his time on SNL but didn’t mean to offend. However, sources close to the singer revealed that he didn’t think much about how his actions would be perceived by others, and there was no drama involved.
