OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed his disapproval of Elon Musk’s attempts to wield political influence that could “hurt competitors” and “advantage [his] own businesses.” In an interview at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit, Altman stated that such actions would be “profoundly un-American.”
Musk is involved in a new advisory commission called DOGE, which aims to recommend deep cuts to federal agencies. As the CEO of Tesla and X, Musk will also provide input on AI policy under incoming President Donald Trump’s administration.
The situation has taken a personal turn, with Musk suing OpenAI, claiming the company abandoned its mission and harmed rivals like xAI through anticompetitive behavior. Altman described xAI as a “serious competitor” but expressed sadness over the lawsuit, admitting that his views on Musk have changed from admiration to disapproval.
