Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced a major update to its records, marking approximately 9.9 million Social Security number holders aged over 120 as deceased. This move has resulted in significant cost savings for the federal government.
In addition to updating Social Security records, DOGE has also terminated 109 contracts with a value exceeding $1 billion, yielding an estimated $420 million in savings. The cancelled contracts include a $3.1 million website development contract and a $2.7 million marketing consulting services contract.
DOGE’s efforts have saved the federal government an estimated $140 billion as of March 30. However, it’s unclear how much of this figure is verifiable due to grants being unlabeled and unverified. The department aims to trim $2 trillion from the federal budget, with a goal of cutting half that amount.
DOGE is not a traditional government agency but rather a task force established by President Trump to modernize federal technology and software. Despite its name, it operates outside the framework of an Act of Congress and targets waste and fraud in the federal government.
