Hundreds of people from the Roanoke Valley gathered in Elmwood Park on Saturday to participate in a nationwide “Hands Off” protest, a movement aimed at fighting back against federal changes and policies.
The event, organized by Indivisible and other local groups, drew an estimated 500-1000 participants, according to organizers. The protesters called for action on issues such as social security, Medicare, disability rights, education, and more.
Speakers emphasized the importance of community and collective action, with one attendee saying, “It’s exciting to see people recognize that together, we are stronger and we live as a community with many different needs and requirements.”
The protest was part of a larger nationwide movement, with similar events happening across Christiansburg, Martinsville, and Lynchburg. Attendees from various backgrounds shared their personal stories and concerns, highlighting the need for collective action to address pressing issues.
Organizers praised the turnout, stating that it was a testament to the power of community and the importance of being heard.
