Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Signs $500M Deal with Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has agreed to a 14-year, $500 million contract extension pending a physical. The deal keeps the 26-year-old star with the team for the rest of his career, making it the third-largest in Major League Baseball history.

Guerrero, a four-time All-Star and son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, had said he would not negotiate during the season after the sides failed to come to an agreement before spring training. However, talks continued, and they sealed a deal that secures the Blue Jays’ best homegrown talent since Hall of Famer Roy Halladay.

The extension follows Guerrero’s impressive 2024 season, where he hit .343/.407/.604 with 26 home runs and 84 RBIs after hitting below expectations in the first half. This resurgence helped the Blue Jays climb to the top of the American League East standings.

Guerrero joins a revamped roster that includes outfielder Anthony Santander, shortstop Bo Bichette, and several free agents, providing significant financial flexibility for the team. His deal sets a new market standard, with an eight-year, $248 million extension being the only comparable contract.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound Guerrero is expected to remain at first base and establish himself as one of the most dominant players in the game, following in his father’s footsteps. With this deal, the Blue Jays have secured their core for years to come, giving them a solid foundation for future success.
