Fink: US Economy in Recession, Buying Opportunity Lurks

Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, believes most CEOs he talks to think the US is in a recession. He warns that the market could decline by another 20%, but sees this as an opportunity for investors in the long run.

Fink’s assessment comes after recent economic indicators and President Donald Trump’s tariff announcement, which wiped trillions of dollars from the stock market. The BlackRock chief expressed concerns about inflation if all proposed tariffs were put into effect simultaneously, making it challenging for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates.

However, Fink remains optimistic that the long-term outlook is positive, citing a focus on growth agenda through deregulation and tax cuts. He also emphasizes the need to build up US infrastructure, particularly in AI, as a major investment theme.

According to Fink, CEOs of hyperscalers like Nvidia agree that this need is still present today. The BlackRock chief believes some big macro trends remain in place, suggesting that investors should be cautious but also look for opportunities.
