The Winnipeg Jets broke their franchise record for wins in a season with a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Monday. Alex Iafallo scored the game-winner off a rebound at 7:05 of the third period, helping the Jets register their 53rd win.
Morgan Barron and Adam Lowry also scored for the Jets (53-21-4), who lead the league standings, Western Conference, and Central Division with 110 points. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 14 saves to record his 44th win of the season and tie his franchise record from 2017-18.
The Blues had their 12-game win streak halted, while the Jets continued their strong performance. Pavel Buchnevich scored for the Blues (43-29-7), who now hold the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the idle Minnesota Wild.
The game was a tight-checking affair, with both teams creating scoring chances but neither able to find the back of the net until Iafallo’s game-winner. The Jets outshot the Blues 8-3 in the first period, but it was the Blues who led in blocked shots 14-3 at one point.
Barron gave the Jets a 1-0 lead with his goal at 2:34 of the second period, which Buchnevich tied up after being sent behind the net by Robert Thomas. Iafallo’s goal at 7:05 extended his season total to 14 goals, while Lowry scored into an empty net with nine seconds left.
The Jets’ win marked their 36th game in a row where they’ve held opponents to under 30 shots. This stretch surpasses the team’s previous record of 16 games and is also the longest in the league this season.
