The Season 10 finale of Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates Jr. is set to air this week. On Tuesday’s episode, actor Laurence Fishburne discovers the identity of his biological father after decades of searching.
In a sneak peek exclusive to TV Insider, Fishburne reacts to finding out who his father was from Gates and the research team at Finding Your Roots. “I’m having all the feels… I’m intrigued. I’m relieved. I’m confused. And I’m also quite all right with all of this,” he says.
The actor, 49 years old when he found out about his biological father, reveals that seeing his father’s face for the first time has given him an existential boost. “I feel less isolated… And other. Yeah, I feel less other.” He also comments on how this new information makes him feel like “an orphan” no longer.
Fishburne’s biological father is identified as a man he never knew personally, but one who had a significant impact on his life through stories and memories shared by Fishburne himself. The actor recalls seeing classic movies with his father, including John Wayne films, and staying with him during the early stages of his acting career.
This episode marks a significant milestone for Fishburne, who has been searching for answers about his biological family for most of his life.
