Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridges Treated with Bitter Substance to Prevent Accidental Consumption

Nintendo has confirmed that the new Switch 2 game cartridges will still have a bitter-tasting coating, similar to its predecessor. This coating is meant as a safety measure to prevent users from accidentally ingesting the cartridge. The substance, denatonium benzoate, is often used in nail polishes to deter biting and is not harmful if consumed in small amounts. Nintendo’s director Takuhiro Dohta emphasized that users should not try to lick or taste the cartridges, even if it seems tempting. Producer Kouichi Kawamoto also shared his own experience of licking an original Switch game cartridge once, and now vows never to do so again. The new Switch 2 console will be launched on June 5th with a retail price of £395.99 for the base model or £429.99 for the bundle featuring Mario Kart World.
