Kevin Bacon Shares Fond Memories of Working with Val Kilmer on Broadway and ‘Batman Forever’

Kevin Bacon recently chatted with guest Drew Barrymore on her daytime program, reminiscing about their time working together. The conversation touched on their shared experience with director Joel Schumacher, who convinced them to star in Batman Forever.

Barrymore fondly recalled her time on the set of Flatliners, which Schumacher also directed. She praised Schumacher and co-star Val Kilmer for creating a safe and nurturing environment. Barrymore noted that it was rare to find directors and actors who took a genuine interest in their well-being during that time.

Bacon chimed in, noting that it’s not common to find such supportive collaborations. He also shared his own experience working with Kilmer on Broadway in 1983, alongside Sean Penn and Jackie Earle Haley in Slab Boys. The two had developed a strong bond, which remained one of Bacon’s most memorable experiences.

Sadly, Kilmer passed away last week at the age of 65 due to pneumonia, following his recovery from throat cancer. His legacy lives on through his extensive filmography, including hits like Top Gun: Maverick and Batman Forever.
