A devastating fire broke out at the Syctom recycling plant in northern Paris on Monday, April 7. Emergency services urged residents to stay away from the area as firefighters battled the blaze, which had ravaged one of the city’s largest recycling facilities.
The fire, which started underground and then spread rapidly through the building, left the structure completely gutted and destroyed. All staff inside had been evacuated safely before the fire began.
Sixty fire trucks and 200 firefighters were deployed to the scene, with authorities closing part of the main ring road around Paris to allow access for firefighting vehicles.
The recycling plant, which began operations in 2019, was designed to handle household waste for nearly a million Paris residents.
