NASA astronaut Jonny Kim is set to embark on his first mission as a flight engineer during Expedition 72/73 on the International Space Station. Launching aboard Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft on April 8, 2024, Kim will bring extensive experience and skills to the team.
A decorated naval officer and medical doctor, Kim was chosen by NASA in 2017 after completing two years of astronaut candidate training. His training included expertise in space station systems, extravehicular activities, flight operations, robotics, and more.
Kim has also supported International Space Station operations since 2020 as a Capsule Communicator (CapCom) in Houston’s Mission Control Center and the Artemis program. He previously served as the Increment Lead for Expedition 65 in 2021 and held various roles within the astronaut office, including Operations Officer and ISS CapCom Chief Engineer.
