Google is upgrading its Workspace suite of cloud-based productivity tools with new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, aiming to make it an AI-first experience. The latest enhancements include Workspace Flows, a tool designed to automate complex processes like updating spreadsheets and searching through documents.
Workspace Flows can integrate with Google’s custom chatbots, called Gems, to handle specialized tasks and tap into data from apps like Google Drive. This feature is expected to simplify workflows beyond the Workspace platform.
Google Docs will soon receive the ability to convert drafts into podcast-style overviews and revise snippets of copy. The “Help me refine” tool will provide suggestions on how to strengthen arguments and improve structure.
In Google Sheets, a new feature called “Help me analyze” will offer guidance and create interactive charts. A similar feature, “Take notes for me,” is set to be introduced in Google Meet, which can summarize topics from video calls.
Google Vids, the AI-powered video creation app, will soon use Google’s Veo 2 model to generate video clips. The company has also introduced new data residency controls, allowing customers to restrict where their data is processed to comply with regulations like the EU’s GDPR.
