Iconic Albums Join National Recording Registry

The Library of Congress has announced its latest class of inductees into the National Recording Registry, a collection of 25 groundbreaking and culturally significant recordings that represent America’s rich musical heritage. The new additions include iconic albums from Miles Davis, Mary J. Blige, Elton John, and Minecraft, as well as singles from legendary artists like Helen Reddy and Celine Dion.

Among the inductees is Davis’ influential 1970 album “Bitches Brew,” which merged jazz and rock, and John’s beloved 1973 album “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” Blige’s deeply introspective 1994 album “My Life” also made the cut, along with the original Broadway cast album of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical “Hamilton.”

Other notable inductees include singles from Reddy and Dion, as well as music from the popular video game Minecraft. The oldest recording on this list is a 1913 song by the Hawaiian Quintette, while the most recent is the 2015 “Hamilton” album.

The National Recording Registry celebrates America’s diverse musical history, featuring recordings that are both historically significant and culturally important.
