Amazon’s CEO Warns of Rising Prices Due to Global Trade War

Amazon shoppers can expect prices to rise due to the ongoing global trade war, according to the company’s CEO Andy Jassy. The retailer will pass on increased costs from tariffs affecting product prices, as sellers won’t have extra margin to absorb them.

The US-China trade war continues, with President Trump imposing 125% tariffs on Chinese imports and Beijing retaliating with 84% tariffs on US imports. Amazon has taken measures to keep prices low, including strategic inventory buys and renegotiating terms with sellers.

However, Jassy noted that customers have become more price-conscious, buying ahead of inflation and trading down when possible. This is in contrast to rival Walmart, which pulled its financial guidance due to tariff uncertainty but maintained sales growth expectations.

As a result, Amazon’s shares fell 3% at the opening, mirroring market declines. Despite this, Jassy assured customers that Amazon will continue to work towards keeping prices low.
