Israel Accuses Gaza Journalist of Being Hamas Member After Bombing Attack

A journalist named Hassan Eslayeh was bombed by the Israeli army outside Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, leaving him severely injured. The attack claimed that Hassan is a member of Hamas and its armed wing, the Qassam Brigades. However, his colleagues argue that such claims are baseless and part of a pattern of misinformation.

Hassan, who frequently reports on Gaza’s conflicts for Mondoweiss, was allegedly infiltrating Israeli territory to participate in Hamas’ attack on the Gaza border fence. But he disputes this claim, stating that he was covering events in Rafah at the time.

The incident is not new, as Hassan previously survived an assassination attempt last month and lost two fingers in the attack. His colleagues believe that Israel often targets Palestinian journalists and aid workers, claiming they are affiliated with Hamas or other factions.

Israel’s claims against Hassan have been widely criticized by those who know him and understand how Hamas operates. The Israeli army’s accusations are seen as a ploy to discredit Palestinian journalists and silence them.

Despite his injuries, Hassan expresses determination to continue reporting on the situation in Gaza. He believes that if he is killed, the stories and photos he has shared will live on, and “the occupation will die.”
