The United States has extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Canadian national accused of playing a key role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed satisfaction with this development, saying it marks “the day” US and Indian efforts to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice finally arrive.
Rana is accused of being involved in planning the attacks that killed 166 people, including six Americans. He will now face trial in India for his role in the deadly assaults carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.
The extradition was facilitated after the US Supreme Court rejected Rana’s final legal appeal, paving the way for Indian authorities to take custody of him. A team from India’s National Investigation Agency brought Rana to India late on Thursday evening, where he will stand trial.
