Rose Leads Masters Charge as McIlroy Roars Back

Justin Rose maintained his lead at the Masters with a solid second-round score, carding four birdies and three bogeys for a one-under 71. Rory McIlryor chased back into contention with a six-under 66, moving two shots behind Rose.

Bryson DeChambeau followed up an opening 69 with a 68 to sit at seven under, while Shane Lowry and Matt McCarty also scored 68s to join the group on five under. Viktor Hovland and Rasmus Hojgaard are four under after 36 holes.

World number one Scottie Scheffler struggled in windy conditions, making it through to the cut as one of the top 50 and ties. Rose’s confidence is high, with the veteran Englishman saying he feels “good” about his game and is showing quality that has been missing in recent seasons.

McIlroy also demonstrated his resilience, playing himself back into contention despite double bogeys on the last two holes of his round. The Northern Irish star’s ability to bounce back from setbacks was praised by sports psychologist Bob Rotella, who helped him focus on patience and letting the score come to him.
