Google has shared more information about the design of its upcoming Pixel 9a phone, including alternative designs for the rear camera bump. The company explored various shapes to withstand drops and impact, with a final design featuring a minimally domed pill shape at the center of the top row.
The new design is closer to a cousin of premium devices rather than just a smaller version, according to Soniya Jobanputra, a product management director for Pixel devices. The phone features a thinner plastic OLED (pOLED) panel that allowed for more internal space for the battery and lower camera placement.
This upgrade resulted in improved display performance, with peak brightness increased from 2,000 to 2,700 nits. Google also confirmed that the Iris color option on the Pixel 9a will be similar to the Purple-ish colorway of the Pixel 3am, offering a calm yet confident look.
The phone’s case design allows users to see the camera and flash without removing it, making the device more visually appealing.
