Google DeepMind has announced it will adopt Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard for connecting AI models to data sources, following a similar move by OpenAI just weeks ago.
CEO Demis Hassabis stated that MCP is an “open standard” rapidly becoming essential in the AI agentic era and expressed enthusiasm for further development with the industry team.
The protocol allows developers to link data from various sources, including business tools, content repositories, and app environments, enabling two-way connections between data sources and AI-powered applications such as chatbots.
