Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced that Meta plans to build a multi-billion dollar artificial intelligence optimal data center in Richland Parish, with an estimated value of over $10 billion. The 4 million square foot facility will support 500 direct new jobs and is expected to create more than 1,000 indirect jobs.
Construction on the site, which spans 2,250 acres, is set to begin in December 2024 and last until 2030. Entergy has pledged to add clean power plants to meet the growing energy demands of the data center, with Meta committed to matching its electricity use with 100% clean and renewable energy.
Meta will also invest $200 million in local infrastructure improvements, such as roads and water systems, and partner with local schools and organizations to train workers for the new jobs. Governor Landry described the project as “one of the largest private capital investments in the state’s history.”
