Colorado Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog made his highly anticipated return to the AHL with the Colorado Eagles last night, and the team made the most of it. The Eagles welcomed Landeskog back with a standing ovation at Blue Arena, and he quickly got into the game, earning himself a shot on net and participating in both special teams.
The Eagles took an early lead when Calle Rosen found Chase Bradley for a two-on-one chance, making it 1-0 in favor of Colorado. Landeskog also showed off his power play ability, positioning himself well in front of the net. On the penalty kill, he earned a quality short-handed look and nearly scored on a deflection.
In the third period, the Eagles were involved in more physical play, but neither team could score. Trent Miner was clutch, saving all 31 shots against the Silver Knights’ goalie. The win marked an important step for the Eagles as they continue to chase the central division title.
Gabe Landeskog spoke positively about his return, saying he felt physically great and credited his support group for helping him through a tough time. Coach Aaron Schneekloth praised Landeskog’s vocal leadership on the bench and Miner’s crucial performance in goal.
The Eagles will face off against the Silver Knights again tomorrow night at Blue Arena, with Landeskog set to once again take center stage.
