Crosswalks in various Silicon Valley cities were hacked over the weekend, causing messages to be played when drivers press the crosswalk button. The messages are impersonations of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, both billionaire oligarchs who have been critical of President Trump.
The messages mock and insult the two billionaires, with one audio clip from a “Zuckerberg” message saying that “it’s normal to feel uncomfortable or even violated as we forcefully insert AI into every facet of your conscious experience.” Another audio clip from a “Musk” message says that being a billionaire is “fââ awesome.”
The most notable “Musk” message, however, claims that he would give the listener a Cybertruck if they become his friend. The message also expresses Musk’s infamous lack of moral convictions.
In contrast, an audio clip from a “Zuckerberg” message takes a different tone, stating how proud it is of “everything we’ve been building together,” including undermining democracy and harming trans people.
Experts say that these pranks are effective in ridiculing Trump oligarchs and making them appear more fallible. By laughing at their antics, people can weaken their grip on power and make it easier to take back control.
