Israel launched a hospital strike in northern Gaza early Sunday, killing one patient and forcing others to evacuate as attacks intensified. Al-Ahli Hospital, which provides medical care to over 100 patients, was hit by an Israeli airstrike despite receiving evacuation warnings.
The hospital’s director, Dr. Fadel Naim, warned that the emergency room and surrounding buildings were severely damaged during the strike. “It was very scary for the patients… we did not know what happened,” he said.
Israel claims to have targeted a command center used by Hamas at the hospital, but its actions are condemned as a war crime. The Israeli military says it took steps to mitigate harm before striking, including issuing warnings and using precise munitions.
The strike comes amid escalating conflict in Gaza, with Israel’s defense minister stating that military activity will expand rapidly across the territory. The health ministry reported 11 deaths and over 100 injuries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed since the war began to over 50,000.
The situation is further complicated by the Israeli blockade of Gaza, which has limited access to food, water, and medical care. Israel’s actions have been described as a “disproportionate response” by human rights groups, citing the targeting of hospitals and other civilian infrastructure.
