Bungie has revealed more details about its upcoming PvP extraction shooter “Marathon”, set to launch on September 23. The game will take part in a Closed Alpha test on April 23, 10 days ahead of its official release.
Marathon will not be a full-priced title, but Bungie describes it as “premium”. However, the game will not feature Proximity Chat, a key trademark of games in its genre, due to concerns about toxicity and creating a safe environment for players. In an interview with PC Gamer, game director Joe Ziegler explained that while they value the experience of Proximity Chat, their priority is ensuring a safe space for players.
Ziegler stated that there is no known solution to tackle toxic communication in proximity chat, so it will likely rely on players policing themselves and behaving accordingly. While Bungie acknowledges the issue, they expressed optimism about finding a solution in the future.
