Eat Yoghurt Daily for Cancer Protection?

Bowel cancer cases are on the rise in the UK, with cases doubling for those under 55. Experts say eating yoghurt daily could help reduce the risk. Professor Justin Stebbing of Anglia Ruskin University explains that yoghurt can modify the gut microbiome, a natural balance of bacteria that influences health and cancer risk.

Yoghurt consumption has been linked to a lower risk of specific aggressive colorectal cancers. The study found that eating two or more servings per week reduced this risk. Researchers measured Bifidobacterium in tumour tissue and found those who ate yoghurt regularly had less “Bifidobacterium-positive proximal colon cancer.”

This trend is concerning, with England’s cases among 25-49 year-olds increasing by 3.6% each year. Cancer Research UK chief executive Michelle Mitchell says this rising trend in early onset bowel cancer affects adults aged 25-49 and is a global issue.
