Apple’s AR Glasses in Development: Interim Solution Ahead of True Vision

Apple is working on an interim solution for augmented reality (AR) glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray-Bans, despite true AR glasses being Tim Cook’s top priority. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is developing its own glasses with cameras and microphones, which will tap into Siri and Visual Intelligence.

However, Apple has concerns about privacy, as these glasses would be capable of capturing media. The interim product is seen as a step towards achieving true AR glasses, but it requires several technologies to be perfected, including high-resolution displays, a high-performance chip, and tiny batteries that can offer long battery life.

Apple needs to figure out compelling applications for its smart glasses, which must also be manufactured in large quantities at an affordable price. Meta has already shown success with its Orion AR prototype, but it’s likely several years away from mass production. Tim Cook is “hell-bent” on creating an industry-leading product before the competition, and Apple will likely launch some form of smart glasses in the meantime.

The development of true AR glasses remains a challenge, requiring advancements in multiple technologies and manufacturing capabilities. Despite this, Apple’s commitment to AR is clear, with Cook prioritizing it above all else.
