Egypt has presented a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas, offering half of Israel’s hostages for release in the first week. However, Hamas has rejected the plan, insisting that disarmament talks are not open for discussion. The senior Hamas official stated that any agreement must begin with an Israeli withdrawal and cease-fire, before considering disarmament.
Hamas is demanding an end to the war, while Cairo emphasizes that a long-term end to fighting depends on Hamas’s disarmament. According to the proposal, the 45-day truce will extend if humanitarian aid continues and all Israeli hostages are returned, both living and deceased, by the end of the period.
