Apple Watch users are encouraged to close their Activity rings on April 24 to earn a special limited-edition award and animated stickers for Messages. This Global Close Your Rings Day aims to motivate users to stay active throughout the day.
According to Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, “Apple Watch has changed the way people think about, monitor, and engage with their fitness and health.” The Activity rings feature on Apple Watch has been a game-changer in promoting physical activity among its users.
A recent analysis of data from over 140,000 participants in the Apple Heart and Movement Study found positive associations between closing Activity rings and aspects of sleep, heart health, and mental wellbeing. Participants who closed their Activity rings most often were 48% less likely to experience poor sleep quality and 57% less likely to report elevated stress.
The Activity app is one of the most popular features on Apple Watch, encouraging users to close their three Activity rings by hitting personal daily goals for active calories burned, minutes of brisk activity completed, and number of hours spent standing. Users can also track their workouts, monitor key fitness metrics, and receive insights into their sleep, heart health, and menstrual cycle.
To celebrate Global Close Your Rings Day, Apple is offering a special pin inspired by the award. Customers can pick up the pin at Apple Store locations worldwide starting April 24, while supplies last.
Note: The limited-edition award is available to users running watchOS 5.0 or later.
